The programme marks a milestone for Ivor King. While the company has long recruited and trained new staff, this is the first time it has implemented a formal, structured training scheme using its in-house training facilities.
Trainees will learn a variety of piling installation techniques and gain exposure to the types of situations and challenges they are likely to encounter on actual construction sites. At Ivor King Training, realistic construction scenarios are created using a range of plant and equipment, allowing trainees to gain experience in a controlled, safe environment.
“These days, it’s virtually impossible to train on-site, so our facilities allow us to provide practical experience without the pressures and restrictions of live projects,” the training team explained. “There’s no substitute for experience, so this approach gives our trainees the confidence and skills they need before they step onto a real site.”
The programme is delivered by CPCS and NPORS-approved Training Assessors, covering both the theory and practical elements of piling operations. Over the year, trainees will work toward an NVQ in Piling Operations and gain the essential CPCS tickets required to work safely and effectively on site.
Ivor King has been serving the construction and civil engineering industries since 1974 and brings over 50 years of specialist expertise to the training programme.
According to CEO Simon King: “We’re delighted to welcome Harrison, Tyler, Theo, and Wade to the Ivor King family. This programme allows us to share our experience, support the development of homegrown talent, and help address the skills shortage facing the industry. We wish them every success and will do everything we can to support them as they begin their careers.”
The scheme reflects a wider challenge facing the construction industry: a shortage of skilled workers. By investing in formal training and development, Ivor King is taking proactive steps to build capability within the sector while giving young people a clear pathway into permanent roles.
