Job Description
About the Role This role plays a key part in ensuring engineering challenges are identified and resolved early, before they become issues on site. You will lead engineering input across projects, support delivery teams, and ensure designs are safe, practical, and aligned with quality and commercial requirements. You will be expected to use sound professional judgement and, where necessary, challenge decisions to protect project outcomes. Key Responsibilities Lead and support project engineering teams, ensuring they are properly resourced, motivated, and developed. Review proposals from tender and site teams, understanding technical and commercial impacts of design changes. Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining safety and quality. Ensure temporary works designs are checked in line with company procedures, both in-house and externally. Provide technical leadership on temporary and permanent works issues. Procure and manage external design consultants. Control engineering time, cost, and programme impacts. Working Relationships Engineering leadership and technical teams Project and site teams Commercial teams Client and contractor engineers What Success Looks Like High-quality technical input supporting project delivery. Clear communication with site teams, reducing rework and non-conformances. Practical and timely solutions to complex engineering problems. Strong professional relationships with clients and contractors. Engineering activities are delivered efficiently and safely. Key Activities Communicate design intent clearly to the project and site teams. Manage and resolve temporary works engineering challenges. Manage and resolve permanent works engineering challenges. Check designs produced internally and by external consultants. Appoint and manage external designers when required. Skills and Experience Strong leadership and people management skills. Solid understanding of structural mechanics. Good knowledge of engineering materials. Confident use of CAD and engineering software. Practical engineering experience. Understanding of cost control and budgeting. Strong awareness of health, safety, and welfare. Appreciation of sustainable engineering principles. Qualifications Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
