LS Eco Advanced Cables Ltd (LSEAC), a joint venture between LS Group of South Korea and the UK鈥檚 Global Interconnector Group, has begun a five-week public consultation for a massive factor at the Port of Tyne
The factory works would comprise a cable manufacturing building with a footprint of approximately 300 by 115 metres, with a 202-metre high tower to provide space to stretch the cables, winding them up and down multiple times inside the building. It would also use gravity to apply protective sheaths to the cables.
The development would also comprise additional manufacturing space, testing facilities, materials storage buildings, offices, security infrastructure, cables storage spools and a gantry to convey cable and to load ships at the adjacent quayside.
LS Group, the South Korean partner in the venture, is one of the world鈥檚 leading manufacturers of high voltage cables with more than 30 subsidiaries worldwide and more than 60 sales and productions sites in more than 21 countries. It is a supplier of cables to the world鈥檚 largest wind farm at Hornsea in the UK and framework supplier of cables to National Grid and its partners. Global Interconnector Group is a UK-based company that services, supplies and invests in interconnector cables and energy infrastructure.
Their LSEAC joint venture is aiming to submit a planning application to South Tyneside Council later this year. 聽If the proposed project secures planning permission, the construction phase is expected to take three years to complete.
