Spanning 1.3 million sq ft, the scheme represents a 拢340m investment in M&S鈥檚 food supply chain and forms a part of the company鈥檚 strategy to double the size of its food business.
The development combines temperature-controlled storage, advanced automated fulfilment, returns and recycling operations, and dedicated office space.
Winvic was appointed to the scheme by industrial developer Prologis. Over the 52-week build programme, it will erect two single-storey warehouses that include multi-storey office accommodation and a vehicle maintenance unit.
Infrastructure works comprise soil nailing to strengthen the embankment to the M1, earthworks, access roads, footpaths and a bridleway bridge. External works include a gatehouse, service yards, HGV and car parking spaces, hardstanding鈥檚 drainage and landscaping.
On completion, the building is expected to be the largest in the world to achieve BREEAM Outstanding certification. It is also targeting an EPC A+ rating. 聽Ecological features include a rooftop photovoltaic array, EV charging and extensive use of recycled materials.
