Tonbridge and Malling councillors have voted unanimously to grant permission for the 12 self-contained units to be built on the former Blue Bell Hill car park, near Aylesford, on the edge of the borough.
The 拢4m project will provide temporary accommodation for homeless families that the council has a duty to house. Typically, the council has chosen a site as far away from Tonbridge in the borough that it could find 鈥 much nearer Maidstone and Chatham.
The modular homes will be built off-site in Peterborough and assembled on location at Blue Bell Hill. 色猫直播 of the modules starts this spring, with on-site assembly due to start in the summer and completion expected in spring 2027.聽
Cllr Robin Betts, the council鈥檚 cabinet member for housing, said: 鈥淭his marks an important milestone in what is a unique project for Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. I鈥檓 extremely pleased that planning permission was unanimously approved, allowing us to move ahead with this scheme to provide much-needed accommodation in the north of the borough, for families who find themselves in the difficult position of losing their home or becoming homeless.鈥
Zed Pods chairman Tom Northway said: 鈥淲e are delighted to have secured planning for this development in collaboration with Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. This high-quality, energy-efficient modular housing scheme will demonstrate how modern off-site construction can rapidly deliver sustainable well-designed accommodation, providing long-term value for both residents and the council.鈥
