Galliford turns to Octavius for Banwell bypass

4 days Main contractor Galliford Try is subcontracting a substantial amount of the civil engineering work on its £105m Banwell bypass job in Somerset.

Octavius Regional Civil Engineering has been appointed to deliver civil works, structures and drainage packages for the Banwell bypass, a new 3.3km single carriageway between the A371 and A368.

鈥淭he win extends our client portfolio, a first project for Galliford Try in the southwest,鈥 said Octavius Regional Civil Engineering delivery director Chris Ellis. 鈥淎s well as creating a new road we are also helping provide new walking, cycling and horse-riding routes 鈥 fostering more integrated and sustainable ways of travel in the west.鈥

Octavius Regional Civil Engineering is transport infrastructure Tier 1 contractor Octavius Infrastructure鈥檚 self-delivery business. The team is already on-site undertaking enabling works and supporting the statutory undertakers to divert assets. To minimise disruption, works traffic is prohibited from travelling through Banwell and can only access the site via a haul road running parallel to the route of the new bypass.

The bypass is being jointly funded by North Somerset Council, a Housing Infrastructure Fund grant from Homes England and the West of England Combined Authority Economic Development Fund.

Octavius鈥 highways business is already working on two projects for North Somerset Council: the A38 major road network improvement scheme and the replacement of Winterstoke Road bridge, a critical route into Weston-super-Mare. Octavius Regional Civil Engineering is also on new highways frameworks for both Somerset Council and Bristol City Council.
